Bedford Book of Genres: A Roadmap

Dear Ethan of a week ago,

Project three has been a daunting task for you to wrap your head around up to this point in time. There are so many genres out there for you to choose from and you had no idea how to sort through all of them and pick three that were feasible to create and worked within the message you were trying to convey through you project. Even at this point in time you still haven’t figured out the exact three genres that you are going to be composing in but reading Chapter 8 in the Bedford Book of Genres helped you a lot in narrowing the list of genres down to a more manageable group to work through. It did so by refocusing you on your purpose of trying to spread the message of my organization to the outside world. You focused on your audience, and because it was so broad, it opened your eyes to the fact that the genres you create need to appeal to different segments of the audience. This played into how you were going to use rhetorical appeals in your composition because different groups are more susceptible to be moved by different uses of rhetorical appeals. This provided a road map for you to narrow down your choices to only ten genres that included a thank you letter, a job application, and a flyer, amongst others.

Best of luck moving forward,

Ethan of today
