Mini-Genre Presentation

  • How the text is typical and atypical conventions of the genre

Typical: It helps fans connect with the team and lets them hear what players and coaches have to say about the team.

Atypical: It’s done in a Vlog format that is not common and makes it seem more intimate than the videos that are typical of this genre.

  • Rhetorical situation the text/genre arose from/addresses

Arose from fans wanting to see more of what is happening inside the football programs that they cheer for. Transparency within the program.

  • The tone or style and the purpose(s) of the text/genre

The tone is entertainingly informative because the purpose of these videos is to help fans learn what goes on within the football program. Clemson’s videos do a great job with this while others, like FSU’s do not.

  • The intended or consequential audience of the text/genre

Fans of Clemson football, college football fans, and recruits.

  • A brief description of the evolution of the genre

The evolution of the genre can be seen in just looking at the differences between the Florida State video. FSU’s social media department has not evolved at all and as such Clemson is light years ahead.

  • Potential complication, implications, problems, and pitfalls of the text/genre

The largest pitfall with this genre is the paranoia that players might face if they fear that they are always on camera, this is more of a problem in the Clemson style videos because more footage is taken. It can also create false expectations in fans about who the players really are.
